Japanese paper
The artist Jordi Arkö told the audience in a very
brilliant way about Japanese paper. Jordi who has
personal experiences from Japan, described the
variety of papers, their quality and manufacturing
process. Jordi also brought a lot of examples of
different papers.
Network
The artist Jim Berggren talked about a network project.
The idea of this network concerning graphic art, arrised
at a seminar made by the Nordic Graphic Union in
2001. The seminar resulted in the so called Voxenäs
declaration where one confirms the need for a network
aiming to:
1. Secure the traditional methods and
knowledges
of graphic art.
2. Collect and develope the artistic and handicraft tools.
3. Explore the meeting between traditional and
digital technics.
The network should be built partly in the
studios of the
artists, partly on the net. Temporary meeting places,
seminars, symposiums etc. should be arranged. The
network should have an European dimension and work
for further training and development on the field of
graphic art. EU should be involved for financing the
project. For announcement of interest and for more
information, please contact Jim Berggren on e-mail:
jim.berggren@telia.com.
The Ljublijana Biennal
Mrs Lilijana Stepancic, Director of the International
Art Center in Ljublijana which arranges the Ljublijana
Biennal of graphic art, made a lecture about the
biennal and showed slides from the last one as well
as from earlier biennals. The Ljublijana Biennal is
today perhaps the most important forum for contemp-
orary graphic art. The lecture reflected in an exellent
way the position of graphic art today.
Workshop
After lunch Jim Berggren made a workshop concerning ways of using
computers for printing. The workshop
took place at the Graphic Workshop and showed
methods for transforming computerized images to lithographic prints.
